Honouring Danny – Dorset’s friendly dolphin

On August 29th, Marine Connection will be unveiling a permanent memorial at Portland Marina, Dorset to commemorate the life of a much-loved solitary social male bottlenose dolphin known as Danny.
Frequently seen around the Portland and Weymouth areas, Danny sadly lost his life due to a vessel strike in 2020. He was only 10 years old, and the news was devastating for all who had come to know him. With support from the public and local businesses, following months of design and planning the memorial (the first of its kind in the UK), will be a lasting tribute to Danny who captured the hearts of many, bringing smiles to the faces of all who were fortunate to encounter this resident dolphin.
The unveiling will form part of Portland Week, which also includes beach clean-ups and many other events.
